    Why Your Tires Keep Turning Brown

    You just cleaned them. The brown is already back. Here's what's actually causing it, and it usually isn't you.

    Brown sidewalls can return after cleaning. Michelin identifies several possible causes, including protective additives, road dirt, and brake dust.

    Antiozonant additives help protect rubber against ozone. They can migrate to the surface and leave brown discoloration.

    Appearance alone cannot rule out dirt or dressing residue.

    Don't Chase It

    Scrubbing harder or reapplying more often won't stop blooming: it's chemistry, not a cleaning failure.

    Clean reasonably, dress once, and move on.

    Check For Residue Too

    Sticky buildup may include old dressing and dirt. It does not prove a single cause; inspect and clean with the tire maker’s approved method.

    Michelin recommends mild soap and water. Let the tire dry and inspect it before considering a compatible dressing. Keep dressing off tread and braking surfaces.
