    Wash and dry the panel, then run a clean plastic bag over the paint. A gritty feel points toward bonded contamination before it points toward failed paint.

    Oxidation usually changes the finish across an area. Clear-coat failure creates a boundary, lifting, or peeling that polish cannot put back.
