    The Right Way to Get Old Adhesive Off

    A razor blade or steel wool can permanently wreck your rear defroster. What works depends on the glass.

    Scraping cured adhesive off glass feels like the obvious fix. It's also how people permanently damage the defroster lines baked into the glass itself.

    Not Every Remover Is Safe

    Ammonia and acetone are common DIY picks, but both are known to blister or melt tint film. What's safe on bare glass isn't automatically safe on tint.

    The Lines Are The Fragile Part

    Defroster lines are thin conductive strips baked onto the glass. Wipe along them with a cloth. Scraping or scrubbing is what cuts them.

    Time Does The Heavy Lifting

    Let the remover dwell before wiping. Forcing it early just grinds grit against the glass before the chemistry finishes breaking the bond.

    Tint Changes The Rules

    Bare glass, chrome, and trim take this remover fine. Tinted film doesn't get the same guarantee. Spot-test it in a hidden corner first, or use a product labeled tint-safe.
